dcblogs faq

How to get listed on dcblogs.com/live

The dcblogs/live feed is a permission-based, opt-in service. We won't list your blog in the automated feed unless you want us to. To request listing in the feed please send a note to: dcblogs@gmail.com

Include blog title and URL. If you know your feed URL please include, otherwise don’t worry about it.

If you believe you have been listed in the live feed in error and want to be removed, please write.

Don't be shy about creating your own art or asking that your art be changed. It's not a problem, although it may take a few days to make the change.

What about the live listing art?

The first art to appear is typically a blurry screen shot. That’s a placeholder until it’s manually replaced. We’ll either use a screen shot, title cutout, or the photo appearing in the “about me” space -- but if you have a preference please let us know. If you don’t like the art that’s been used on the live listing, send a note and it will be replaced. We'd really like you to be happy with the result. If you have updated your blog art/template and what the feed art to reflect that, plesae write.

If you want to make your own art, please do. Save as a jpg file if you can. You must own the copyright: we can’t use art copied off another web site.

How often are blogs updated?

The system checks every 30 minutes. If you post more than once in 24-hour period, only the most recent post will appear. A post will stay up on the feed for 24 hours and aren’t archived here.

How quickly are blogs added?

It will take at least a week, and sometimes longer. New blogs are added in batch (it's much easier for us that way) and so we will wait until there's a sufficient number. It's also a volunteer operation.

Are all blogs added?

We reserve the right to reject any blog for live listing. For instance, cut-and-paste blogs (repost an entire newspaper article) won’t be added.

Legal disclaimer:

This feed is offered as a public service. We’re not affiliated with any of the blogs in the live feed and have zero control over their content. We don't monitor the blog postings.

Why do this?

A goal of dcblogs.com is to bring attention to the DC metro area bloggers, and help those bloggers connect with one another. The most active readers of blogs are their fellow bloggers.

Are reciprocal links required?

If you want to link to dcblogs that’s entirely your choice, but if you feel this blog offers a worthwhile service, a link is appreciated. It helps build readership which, in turn, sends more traffic to the listed blogs.

Regarding the main dcblogs.com page:

The live feed does not replace the edited content -- the feed is just one more way to connect the DC blog community. The live feed doesn't build community by itself.

The main dcblogs.com page is a news site. It reports on topics raised by bloggers, changes in the DC blogging community, as well as bring new blogs to the attention of readers. We're always on the hunt for interesting content and suggestions are encouraged -- let us know about your work or the work of other writers that you think we should be making a note of. Just write dcblogs@gmail.com If you would like to join the ranks of regular contributors, send a note.

Who are DC bloggers?

Anyone who is part of the DC blog community is a dc blogger. If you live outside this region, but network with local bloggers and are linked locally, your blog can be listed here. dcblogs is a virtual space as well as a physical one.

Live Feed Credits:

Thomas Fausel developed the live feed engine. Tom is a talented technologist and good friend who first used it for www.ctweblogs.com. He put an enormous number of hours building it and deserves more thanks than I can possibly offer. His work represents his belief in the importance of blogs. The live Web page is designed and maintained by Laurie Conrod.
