Posters and blogs

DC Blogs Noted:

Walking through Dupont, Adams Morgan, U Street areas this weekend I saw many young families pushing baby carriages. But how many parents will send their children to DC public schools, pay for private schools or eventually move to NOVA or MD communities?

An anonymous blog by DC Elementary Teacher offers an unsettling report on one aspect of the school system.

DC Elementary Teacher
This teacher is leaving for a private school.

Posting is intermittent. There’s only been several blog post over the last five months. Read each one.

There are always a few parents who ask for MORE homework. Their students are usually ones that don't take the time and care to do their best on the homework that WAS assigned. For many of them (and presumably their parents) it's all a competitive, how-much-can-you-produce type of game. We teachers usually placate these requests by throwing a little extra work--to everyone. – Feb. 5.

Meanwhile,
Hands On DC is expecting “2,000 volunteers to 32 DC public schools, including Aiton Elementary School, Shaw Junior High School and Cardozo Senior High School” on Saturday May 7 to paint, landscape and fix the schools. No experience is required to volunteer.
