Blog driving adventures

Driving lessons
Beauty and the Beltway
This DC woman from Montana, a talented writer, has stories to tell. First, one of her blog entries, the
Last Best Place, was published in the Montana Standard. Her second story is in two posts, the first involves a little scene she witnessed while walking in the city. The second is about a story of a time past, when her father took her on her first driving lesson. It starts like this:

It was a cool crisp day in October; when my father pulled a brand new sea foam green Ford Escort into our driveway. I was ecstatic. After months of Drivers Ed and years of hitching rides, I finally had my very own car. I rushed outside to celebrate every 16-year-old girls dream, but as I threw my arms around my father while screaming emphatic gratitudes, I noticed something that made the smile disappear from my face.

Kristine heads toward the White House in her rental truck and “obliviously blew through two blocks worth of ‘No Trucks’ signs.”

They made me open up the back, and I had to suppress a giggle when the officers took a few steps back and put their hands on their guns in the second just before I rolled open the back of the truck. The little crowd that had formed got a great view of my living room furniture, which, i might add, is a very non-threatening khaki sofa and lightly colored wood coffee table ensemble.

Explanations
DC Sports Chick
A new blog about “one woman’s ramblings about the world of sports (and everything else)” explains some of her site policies. Such as why there’s no Redskins link on her site.

You'll notice that one DC professional team is missing- the Redskins. Can't stand 'em. I hate how they dominate the news YEAR-ROUND even when nothing is happening. They're such a lousy team and don't deserve half of the attention they get, yet people go crazy for them. I don't get it. ....

...I'll primarly focus on DC sports, but I reserve the right to comment on athletes and teams in other parts of the country/world. I will also discuss other issues that catch my attention, such as the idiocy of celebrities and various "Oddly Enough" stories. … Oh, this will be fun...

Avert Your Eyes:
I realize that trying to find a place to eat dinner on a Friday night that does not involve a period of waiting is next to impossible. What I wasn’t prepared for was the way in which the hostess announced the wait time. She told us that currently the average wait for a seat would be between 110 and 145 minutes. Um, excuse me?

A PSA from the Rock Creek Rambler. The importance of having an emergency contact in your cell phone list. The recognized designation is ICE (In Case of Emergency), so that hospitals, police, or firefighters might know who to contact on your behalf. For example, your wife Jane's contact entry might look like "ICE - Jane."

KOB: Weren't those Cookie pics adorable? Beauty and the Beltway continues to produce quality writing, and I always enjoy RCR's musings.

You should come to one of our happy hours.

I'm not sure I'd consider my pre-teen picture 'adorable.'
