DC Blogs Noted:

At War in Iraq
The Replacements
This blog is written by a officer serving in Iraq, a Lt. Adam. In a note about this blog,
April of Captain & Coke, wrote: Adam is actually a lawyer from the Arlington area who is currently fighting the war in Iraq due to his Army Reserve status. He tells of his military experiences that will have you captivated from the first sentence. The blog dates from December 2004, just before his call-up. He doesn’t post too often, but his work is well crafted and the archives are worth the visit. An excerpt from a Sept. 15 post:

My training tells me that without knowing the enemy situation, the location of friendly forces, and the direction to the enemy, rolling in with our guns blazing, without an informed plan could possibly be one of the worst things I could do.

The army calls it “tactical patience.”

I call it the longest ten minutes of my life.

Some aspects of ecommerce seem a little creepy, this writer notes.

Memories, celebrations by Scorpios.

In a drunken Caps game moment I introduced my soon-to-be beau to my ex by saying, “This is Ronny. We used to have sex.”

The HAWT waiter with the deep, sultry voice comes by and asks if we need anything else. I look at him seductively and say "yes, a glass of ice..." And he brought it! He then turns to A. and says, "is she always like this?"

I am so glad our sign is almost over -- as a Scorpio with lots of Scorpio friends. Enough pondering my mortality for this year! :-)

YOu seem to focus overwhelmingly on only a few blogs. Which is fine I suppose, but if you're going to be writing about dc bloggers, you should write/look at others besides the regulars. This is my personal observation, but just so you know.

I dont agree with that anon, although you are certainly entitled to your opinion. There are lots of new blogs featured every week in DCblogs -- some of them almost as soon as they are created. I like seeing who is new to the blog scene in DC.

A fair criticism. It would hurt if this effort is perceived as playing favorites.

That said, the longrange goal is to turn this into a collaborative. The idea will be sketched out by people who participate, but expect that volunteer "editors" will work to find blogs and interesting posts. The idea is to make this as diverse as possible so it truly reflects the range and depth of the dc blogoverse. Don't know exactly how this will happen, but invite anyone with interest in helping to contact. I'm committed to making something work here, but also equally interested seeing that idea flourishes. I'd like my role to become just another editor, if that makes sense.

Cookie and anon -- thanks for your notes.

And I'll admit a bias to scorpios; i'm one as well. According to lore, Scorpios have a weakness: they sometimes use their stingers on themselves, and that's not what i want do with this blog. ;-)

I was thinking about what Anon raised, and want to follow. First, I don't think there is a focus on a few blogs. Scan the month of Oct., for instance, and the vast majority of blogs are either new, or new posts on this blog.

Sometimes it's difficult to avoid, however, some posts. For instance, on today's post (nov. 16) Church of the Big Sky, whom I made note of last week after she wrote about a collision with a deer, is noted again for an experience she had with the Dali Lama; there was also a report on Candy Sandwich -- together both posts are a rich read and difficult to ignore.

I do know that this effort has helped expose some people to new blogs and broadened readership. I also realize the system for doing this isn't perfect, but with help it's improving.

Maybe it's just the scorpio in me coming out-I am one too-but I've seen DC Cookie here numerous times in the past month as well as Washington Cube and others. Whatever I figured I'd point it out, it's not that big of a deal.
